The Courtship of Miles Standish
by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Description: A tale in verse concerning the early days of the Plymouth Colony, and its captain Miles Standish. His wife has recently died, and Standish desires to marry again, so he asks his friend John Alden to court for him the loveliest maiden of Plymouth – whose name is Priscilla. An unwelcome task for Alden, who has long loved Priscilla from afar! But he puts aside his qualms, and resolves to act as advocate for his friend – with results neither he nor Standish could foresee. A classic poem, joined to evocative illustrations, this work makes an excellent first introduction to the Pilgrims.
