From the time the days-old gray squirrel is rescued by the Lady, he is her constant companion. She names him Little Mitchell because she found him fallen from the nest on the flank of Mt. Mitchell in the mountains of North Carolina. Tucked in her jacket or carried in a box, he travels to Boston, by wagon, car, and train, encountering all sorts of adventures along the way.
